I have enjoyed being in Jane Nash’s art class for several years. Her broad, deep knowledge of art history informs her teaching. In addition, she has experience in a variety of media, including pencil, acrylic, watercolor, collage and more. Jane encourages each student to choose his/her own subject and medium for each project. Her artistic versatility and powers of perception enable her to address our individual needs, questions, goals. She provides firm guidance and instruction when needed while also nurturing creativity as she urges each student to explore, experiment and play; in essence, to learn. In brief, Jane is a skilled artist who is knowledgeable, supportive, receptive, patient and kind - a wonderful teacher.

About

Art has been my life for over 60 years. Creativity changes us for the better, and this is why I love teaching.

I am a muralist and painter, and work all over the United States. My media include pen and ink, pencil, watercolors, oil and acrylic. I bring professional, hands-on experience. What subjects interest me? Landscapes, portraits, vegetation and flowers and pets to name a few. Currently, I’m studying thangka painting, a complex traditional Tibetan form of art. Which may take as long as five years to finish one piece.

I teach the basics of good design, color and value, but my true joy comes watching you take the basics and find your own way.

Whether you work with me one-on-one or in a small group of four students at a time, you’ll develop your own strengths and understanding of yourself through your art. Your creativity is individual, and that’s why you are encouraged to explore different media.

Classes are taught in my home in SE Portland. We gather around a large table to give you an opportunity to make, learn and share in a friendly space. You’ll work at your own speed.

Whether you’re 8 or 90, you’ll find my classes encouraging, energizing and fun.

Let’s talk about what you’re hoping to accomplish on your art journey.
